Paul asked God three times to take away his thorn in the flesh. Three times, the answer was no. Instead God told him: my grace is sufficient, my power works best in weakness. And when words run out completely, Paul says there’s still a prayer being prayed — the Spirit groaning on our behalf, in language too deep for speech.

This Sunday we continue Honest to God with Paul’s unanswered prayer and his wordless one, as we gather also around the Lord’s Table.
